Mr. Nasir Alfa Mohammed

Biography

Mr. Nasir Alfa Mohammed is a lawyer, consultant and a policy analyst in the areas of energy and extractive resource governance (Oil, Gas & Mining). As a lawyer and consultant, Nasir works as Senior Associate Consultant at Ali-Nakyea & Associates, a private law firm in Accra where he heads the Extractive Unit, providing legal opinions and consulting services to oil, gas and mining companies. Prior to Ali-Nakyea, he worked as Associate Legal Practitioner at Atuguba & Associates, a private law firm with the LADA Group of Companies in Accra.

As a policy analyst, Nasir has worked as a Policy Advocacy Officer with the Natural Resource Governance (NRGI) Institute, and led the Institute’s legal reform and policy advocacy agenda in Ghana. He has previously worked with the Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) and held several positions including Senior Energy Policy Manager, Senior Advisor (Oil & Gas) and very briefly as Ag. Head of Policy before moving on.

Nasir holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in Petroleum Law and Policy from the University of Dundee’s Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP), Scotland, UK; a Qualifying Certificate in Law (QCL) from the Ghana School of Law; a Post-First Degree Bachelor of Laws from the University of Ghana School of Law; and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with Sociology from the University of Ghana. His research interests have been oriented to the interface between legal/policy/governance issues in the oil and gas industry in particular and general policy issues, including environmental law and policy issues for natural resources and energy. Nasir has published/co-published peer reviewed papers on energy and natural resource governance in well-respected global journals on energy and resource governance. Nasir is currently (since January 2020) a serving Member of the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) representing the Ghana Bar Association (GBA).
